About Wama
Wama occupies a stretch of the Pech valley in Nuristan's warm south. Its slopes are worked hard: terraced fields, orchards and the walnut groves that supply one of the province's best-known harvests.
Life here follows the farming year. The fields grow wheat, maize, beans and potatoes alongside the orchards; spring brings blossom to the terraces, autumn brings the walnut harvest, and the produce of these villages travels far beyond the valley.
For travellers coming up the Pech valley, Wama is often among the first Nuristani districts they see: lower, greener for longer, and a natural stop on the way up into the higher country.
